Pilots' Strike on the Grounds Lufthansa Flights Canceled

Wednesday, 2 April 2014

German airline Lufthansa had cancelled almost about 900 flights at the beginning of the third-day strike that is likely to affect almost 425,000 passengers.

The airline officials said they were expected for more 3,000 flights to be grounded that is considered being the largest work stoppage in its history. Lufthansa said passengers are being shifted into other airlines or train services to minimize the interruption.

The pilots wish for a new compensation and pension’s agreement from the airline. However each one blames the other for the crash of discussions. The pilot’s union leader, Vereinigung Cockpit, disputed that Lufthansa had unsuccessful to make a negotiable offer for the solution of the issue. Lufthansa is gradually considered more challenging with low-cost airlines across the Europe.

According to the report of the media news agency, a spokeswoman said airline urged the pilots to come back on the negotiating table. The Lufthansa airline Cargo, freight carrier, and its German wings have also been serious affected by the strike. However, other subsidiaries such as Lufthansa Cityline and Austrian Airlines are not affected.

Lufthansa says it has tried their best to minimize the disturbance by offering passengers the opportunity to travel from other airlines or train services and also informed to the passengers about strike through email and text messages.

Emergency food and sleeping preparations also have been prepared at large airports for those who did not get the warning messages.
